Welcome to Media Arts. A drama program specifically set up to train people interested in acting for Film, TV, Radio or any other possible electronic medium.

Weekly Class Breakdown:

1. Introduction to Media Arts

Day one and all these strange people.  This is your chance to:

Weeks 2-4 are Voice/Radio work

“Sound is 50% of any Television or Film Production...

2. Voice - Strength, Clarity, Pacing

Make your voice the best it can be.  After today you will know how make sure you voice is clear understood and how to get a thought across.

3. Voice - Characterization & Sound Mixing

As perfect as your voice is now, let’s enhance it.  Can you do different voices?  It’s not as hard as you may think.  This class will show you haw to use your voice to portray different characters.  Making you more versatile as an actor (neat eh?).

4. Voice - Radio play

Joy! Bliss! FUN! FUN!  With all the knowledge you’ve gained over the weeks we are now going to produce a live Radio Play.  With sound effects and everything.

Weeks 5-8 are Movement/Television work

... Visuals are the other 50%!

5. Non-verbal Communication

Since the beginning of the film era what the audience can see communicates much to the audience.  In productions, auditions and every day life people pick up visual cues from you.  Today we take advantage of that.

6. Voice/Movement Action and Reaction

You’re walking down the street; someone runs up to you and points a gun at you. Unless you know the person, chances are you’re not going to yawn and act bored.  Even if you’re not the person talking, how you react to situations around you in a scene is important.

7. Mini-Production #1

Today we try our hand at making our own ad (copied from TV).  The entire class will be treated as a true to life production.  The class will be broken into two parts:

  1. Technical, these are the cameras, lights and sound people
  2. The Cast, the stars of the production.

8. Mini-Production #2

Just like last week except the positions are switched and it is a different commercial.

9. Self Produced Productions

By week four students will start working towards this day.  The students (that’s you!) will pick a partner (or partners) and a crew (camera and so on...) and will put together a 1 to 3 minute production (no more, no less).

10. Major EXAM! ... uh, we mean your first audition (with us anyway)

This is where we put all the AMAZING! SPECTACULAR! and INCREDIBLE skills you have learned to the test.  This class will run as a ‘mock’ audition.  On week 9 you will be given the rough details of what you need to have for this audition.(Specific Audio & Video Acting)
